"Gokou" is a type of Japanese green tea cultivar that is highly regarded for its unique flavor profile. The cultivar is said to have been developed in the early 1900s by a tea farmer named Nagatani Soen in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
According to legend, Nagatani Soen was inspired to develop a new tea cultivar after a dream in which a god told him to create a tea that would be the "ultimate tea". He spent years experimenting with different tea plants, crossbreeding and selecting them until he finally developed the Gokou cultivar.
Gokou tea is characterized by its rich, full-bodied flavor and aroma, with notes of umami and sweetness. It is said to be particularly well-suited for making gyokuro and other high-quality Japanese green teas.
Gokou was selected as the best among the other seedlings in 1953.
Nowadays, Gokou is still a relatively rare tea cultivar, with only a small number of farms growing it. However, it remains highly sought-after by tea enthusiasts who appreciate its unique flavor and history.

MATCHA vs COFFEE
A Steady Boost
According to many studies, a cup of matcha contains less caffein than a cup of coffee. The natural L-theanine in matcha calms your mind and body while absorbing caffeine which gives you a focused 4-6 hour boost! Matcha provides a steady increase in energy and focus without sudden spikes or crashes like with coffee and energy drinks.
